Shake Shack Secret Menu 2026: Hacks, Calories and How to Order

Last updated: October 2026.

Shake Shack doesn’t have an official secret menu. What people call one is a set of fan-made orders built from ingredients the kitchen already has: a four-patty Quad, cheese fries with cherry peppers and ShackSauce, or frozen custard scooped into a potato roll. A few old hacks, like the cheese dog and the lettuce wrap burger, are on the regular menu now.

There’s no password and no hidden button in the app. You order these by describing what you want, and the kitchen builds it if the ingredients are there. Below you’ll find the hacks worth ordering, how to ask for them without confusing anyone, and what each one adds up to in calories.

Does Shake Shack Have a Secret Menu?

Not an official one. Shake Shack doesn’t publish a list of off-menu items. The orders that circulate online come from regulars, food writers and TikTok users who noticed that the kitchen already stocks everything needed to remix the menu.

Official Menu vs Unofficial Orders

An official item has a name, a price and a spot in the app. A hack is usually a tweak: an extra patty, a topping borrowed from another item, or two items combined. It has no set price, so you pay for each add-on, and two Shacks may build the same order a little differently. That flexibility is the reason hacks exist at all. If an ingredient is on hand and the line isn’t slammed, many crews are happy to try.

Old Secret Items That Are Now on the Menu

Shake Shack’s menu has absorbed several hacks that used to need a special request:

  • Cheese Dog: a griddled dog topped with cheese sauce, now listed with the other dogs.
  • Lettuce wrap burgers: sold in the “Good Fits” section, so you no longer have to ask for “protein style.”
  • Gluten-free ShackBurger: available as a single, double or triple on a gluten-free bun.
  • Triple burgers: the ShackBurger, SmokeShack and several others come in a triple.
  • Spicy Cheese Fries with Ranch: a close cousin of the cherry-pepper fries hack covered below.
  • Shack-Cago Dog: it appears on the menu we reviewed, though the nutrition sheet notes some Shacks don’t carry it.

What’s still unofficial: the Quad, cheese fries with cherry peppers and ShackSauce, custard in a bun, most half-and-half shakes, and the shandy.

Does Every Shack Offer It?

No. It depends on stock, how busy the Shack is and what kind of location it is. Stadium and seasonal Shacks usually run shorter menus, and Shake Shack’s own nutrition sheet marks some items as unavailable at certain locations. If a topping isn’t there, the order can’t happen, and that has nothing to do with how you asked.

Burger Hacks

Most burger hacks come down to one or two add-ons. The totals below are our own sums of Shake Shack’s published numbers, so read them as close estimates rather than official figures.

The Quad ShackBurger

Four patties and four slices of cheese. Shake Shack’s menu stops at a triple, so a Quad is the next step up, and it’s the nearest thing the Shack has to In-N-Out’s 4×4. Ask for “a ShackBurger with four patties” and expect the cashier to confirm the add-ons.

A Triple ShackBurger is 1,020 calories. An extra patty adds 190 and a slice of American cheese adds 70, which puts the Quad at roughly 1,280 calories, about 97 g of protein and about 4,340 mg of sodium. For context, the Dietary Guidelines for Americans suggest keeping sodium under 2,300 mg a day, so this one burger is close to double that. Some food sites quote around 2,000 calories for a Quad, but that doesn’t match Shake Shack’s own component numbers.

There’s no listed price because it’s a custom build. Expect it to land above the $13.99 Triple ShackBurger, since the extra patty and cheese are charged as add-ons.

The SmokeShack Quad

Same idea on a SmokeShack, so the four patties come with bacon and cherry peppers. Start from the 1,090-calorie Triple SmokeShack, add a patty and a slice of cheese, and you get about 1,350 calories, roughly 103 g of protein and around 5,090 mg of sodium. It’s a lot of burger, and splitting it is a perfectly reasonable plan.

The Double Shack Stack

The Shack Stack pairs a beef patty with a crisp-fried, cheese-filled portobello. It’s 770 calories as listed and costs $13.99. Ask for a second patty and you have a Double Shack Stack at about 960 calories. The mushroom’s crunchy coating gives it a different texture from a plain stack of patties, which is the point of choosing it.

ShackBurger with Pickles and Onions

The easiest hack on the list. Ask for pickles and sliced onions on your ShackBurger. Together they add about 6 calories, so a single ($8.29, 500 calories) barely changes. It’s a good first order if you don’t feel like explaining a complicated build.

The Shack-Cago Burger

Fans take the Shack-Cago Dog’s toppings (relish, onion, pickle, tomato, sport peppers, celery salt and mustard) and put them on a burger. The idea traces back to a limited Shack-Cago run in 2015. What you get depends on which of those toppings your Shack has. Tomato, onion and pickle together add roughly 10 calories. The others aren’t broken out on the nutrition sheet, so we don’t have exact totals.

Hot Dogs and Grilled Cheese

Cheese Dog with Cherry Peppers

The Cheese Dog ($5.99, 450 calories) used to be a request and is now listed. The hack that’s left is the pepper add-on. Cherry peppers add only 10 calories but bring a sharp, tangy heat, and they also add around 470 mg of sodium, which is worth knowing if you’re watching salt. The total comes to about 460 calories.

If you want something heavier, the menu also has a Crispy Onion Cheese Dog ($6.99, 560 calories) and a Bacon Cheese Dog ($7.99, 540 calories).

Shack-Cago Dog and Garden Dog

The Shack-Cago Dog is the Chicago-style one, at $5.99 and 390 calories. The nutrition sheet marks it, along with the Garden Dog, as not available at every Shack. The Garden Dog is the meat-free option and the lightest dog listed, at 180 calories.

If your Shack doesn’t carry the Shack-Cago, ask for the same toppings on a regular Hot Dog ($4.99, 350 calories). It won’t be identical, but it’s close.

Grilled Cheese with Bacon and ShackSauce

The plain grilled cheese ($5.99, 320 calories) was a hack once and is now on the menu. The upgrade is two slices of bacon (70 calories) and a side of ShackSauce for dipping (60 calories). That brings it to about 450 calories and makes it a far more interesting sandwich than the plain version.

Fries and Sides

Cheese Fries with Cherry Peppers and ShackSauce

If you only try one hack, make it this one. Order Cheese Fries ($5.99, 710 calories), ask for chopped cherry peppers on top and a side of ShackSauce to pour over. The peppers (10 calories) and sauce (60) bring it to about 780 calories. It’s tangy, creamy and messy, and fans often compare it to In-N-Out’s animal style fries.

The app usually doesn’t let you add peppers to fries, so ask in person. If the Shack can’t do it, order cherry peppers as an extra on a burger and move them over yourself. Or skip the hack and order the Spicy Cheese Fries with Ranch ($5.99, 850 calories), which is on the regular menu.

Shakes, Custard and Drinks

Custard in a Burger Bun

Order a single vanilla custard ($4.99, 280 calories) and a Martin’s potato roll on the side (180 calories), then put the custard inside the roll. The whole thing is about 460 calories. The roll is soft and neutral, so it works like an ice cream sandwich for people who find cookie sandwiches too sweet. Order the pieces separately so the register rings them up cleanly, and ask whether the crew can toast the roll.

Half-and-Half Shakes

Vanilla & Chocolate and Black & White shakes are already on the menu, so the hack is for other pairings, like chocolate and strawberry. A chocolate shake is 750 calories and strawberry is 690, so a half-and-half lands around 720. Shakes start at $6. If the crew can’t blend two flavors, order each separately and split the pair.

Beer Float and Shandy

At Shacks that serve beer, two drinks are worth knowing. The Beer Float is listed on the nutrition sheet at 490 calories. For a shandy, ask for draft ShackMeister Ale (160 calories for 12 oz, 210 for 16 oz) mixed with Shack-made lemonade. The lemonade adds sugar, since a small one is 160 calories on its own, so a shandy won’t stay at beer-level calories. Both are for adults 21 and over.

Is There a Peanut Butter Order?

There’s an official one. The Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup Shake is on the menu we reviewed at $9.99 and 1,900 calories, far above any other shake. The next largest on the list is the Biscoff Cookie Butter Tiramisu Shake at 1,140. Treat it as a shake to split. Flavors rotate, so check that your Shack has it.

Older secret menu lists mention a peanut butter and bacon burger. We couldn’t confirm it from any current source, and peanut butter isn’t listed as a topping on the nutrition sheet, so we’d treat it as a rumor. If you want to try, ask whether your Shack even has peanut butter on hand. Most probably won’t.

If peanuts or tree nuts matter to you, tell the crew before you order anything from the shake menu, since flavors change often.

ShackSauce: What It Is and How to Get More

ShackSauce is the sauce on the ShackBurger, and Shake Shack hasn’t shared the recipe. It’s creamy and tangy with a little spice. On the nutrition sheet a serving is 60 calories, 6 g of fat and 60 mg of sodium. People often call it the “secret sauce” online, but on Shake Shack’s own sheet it’s listed as ShackSauce.

Getting Extra Sauce

Add it in the app or ask at the register. An extra costs a small amount that varies by Shack. Some crews will hand you a cup at pickup if you forgot, but don’t count on it.

Other Sauces to Ask For

The nutrition sheet also lists ranch (140 calories), honey mustard (180), herb mayonnaise (90), BBQ sauce (70) and cheese sauce (80). Among the creamy options, ShackSauce is the lightest.

How to Order Off the Menu

At the Counter

This is the easiest route. Describe the build instead of using a nickname. “A SmokeShack with four patties” is clearer than “a SmokeShack Quad” if the cashier hasn’t heard the term. Say it plainly, then pause so they can confirm the add-ons.

In the App or at a Kiosk

Apps and kiosks follow the official menu, so you’re limited to the modifiers they offer. Extra patties, extra sauce and swapping the bun for lettuce usually work. Anything more creative, like peppers on fries or custard in a roll, needs an in-person request.

When the Crew Doesn’t Know the Item

Secret menu names are invented by fans, so plenty of employees won’t recognize them, and that’s fine. Break the order into parts and say what goes on what. On a busy night a simpler order is more likely to come out right. If something can’t be combined, order the pieces separately and assemble them at your table. A polite ask and a short order go a long way.

Calories and Prices: Work Out Your Own Order

Hacks don’t have a listed price or calorie count, so the best approach is to add up the building blocks Shake Shack publishes.

Why Your Total May Differ

We added the published numbers for each part. Shake Shack says its nutrition information is based on standard formulations and serving sizes, and that serving sizes, preparation and regional supply can change the real figures. A hand-built order can drift from our math, so treat every total here as a close estimate. Prices depend on city, venue and ordering method, so check the total at the register.

Diet and Allergy Notes

Low-Carb and Lettuce Wrap Orders

Lettuce wraps are on the menu, so there’s no need to ask for anything special. Here’s what they cost:

Lettuce wrap orderPriceCalories
ShackBurger, single$8.29330
ShackBurger, double$10.99580
ShackBurger, triple$13.99840
SmokeShack, single$9.99430
SmokeShack, double$12.99690
SmokeShack, triple$15.99950
Avocado Bacon Burger, single$11.49430
Chicken Shack$9.79420
Veggie Shack, single$9.99460

Swapping the bun for lettuce takes a single ShackBurger to about 3 g of carbs and 23 g of protein, by our math from the nutrition sheet: we remove the bun’s 24 g of carbs and 7 g of protein, then add the wrap. Skip the fries if you’re counting carbs. ShackSauce has none, while BBQ sauce has 16 g per serving.

Gluten-Free Options

The gluten-free bun is 160 calories, against 180 for the potato roll. A gluten-free ShackBurger is $9.29 and 480 calories as a single, $11.99 and 740 as a double, and $14.99 and 1,000 as a triple. A gluten-free bun or a lettuce wrap isn’t a guarantee for celiac disease or a severe sensitivity, since shared prep surfaces, fryers and sauces can all matter. Tell the crew and check Shake Shack’s current allergen guide.

Vegetarian and Vegan Orders

For vegetarian orders, the ’Shroom Burger ($10.49, 510 calories), the Veggie Shack ($9.99, 630 calories) and the Garden Dog (180 calories) are the main options. Vegan is much harder, because most items use cheese, ShackSauce or a potato bun. Ask the crew about ingredients and about shared grills and fryers.

Lighter Orders

For a lighter meal, a ShackBurger lettuce wrap is 330 calories, a single Hamburger is 370 ($7.99), six Chicken Bites are 300 ($5.99), and the Garden Dog is 180. Organic iced tea is 5 calories ($3.99), while a small Shack-made lemonade is 160.

A Note on Allergies

The nutrition sheet we used doesn’t list allergens, so check Shake Shack’s separate allergen guide before you order and tell the crew about any allergy. Every extra you stack onto an order can add an allergen too.

Final Thoughts

You don’t need a code word to order off the Shake Shack secret menu. You need a clear description and a bit of flexibility. If you’re new to this, start with a ShackBurger with pickles and onions or the cheese fries with cherry peppers, since most crews can pull those off without fuss. Save the Quad for a day when you’re very hungry or have someone to share with, and check the numbers before you order.

Frequently Asked Questions

In a loose sense, yes. It’s a collection of fan-made orders built from regular ingredients, so what you can get depends on the Shack and what’s in stock.

Only the basic ones. Extra patties, extra sauce and lettuce wrap swaps usually work. Creative combos need an in-person request.

Roughly 1,280 for the ShackBurger version and 1,350 for the SmokeShack version, based on adding a patty and a slice of cheese to Shake Shack’s published triple.

Cheese fries with chopped cherry peppers and a side of ShackSauce, at about 780 calories. If the Shack can’t add peppers, the Spicy Cheese Fries with Ranch are an official alternative.

A ShackBurger lettuce wrap, which comes to about 3 g of carbs as a single. Skip the fries and watch the sauces.

Often with fewer options. Stadium and seasonal Shacks run shorter menus, so some toppings may not be in stock.

In-N-Out lists its off-menu orders on its own website. Shake Shack doesn’t, so its hacks rely on fans and on how flexible each crew is.
